Message from the President of the National AMGE
Unfortunately, we have to announce that due to the weather conditions currently present in Villahermosa we are obligated to pospone our Symposium on Unconventional HC Reservoirs initially set up to be held October 9-10. The rainy season started this year before it is annually expected, and the intense rains have provoked that the main rivers, which cross the State, start to over flood affecting small villages and even some surrounding parts of the capital city Villahermosa. As always, poor people are the most affected and the Governor has recommended evacuating homes in some communities.
One year ago, this region was dramatically affected by floodings, and even though the Hilton is a very safe place out of the city, the basic services are not the best in these cases. The Technical Committee do not want to expose our attendants to any risk and decides that there are not the best conditions to celebrate this technical meeting next week.
We’ll make decisions with the corresponding authorities on what are the best dates to reschedule this event; however we can inform you in advance that we are sure it will be held until February or March 2009, when the Mother Nature is gentler for the Southeastern Mexico and you can really enjoy your stay in this beautiful city.
We really understand that all of you reserved a space in your full agendas and made travel plans to attend this meeting so we really apologize for this out-of-control inconvenience. On the other hand, the high-level technical program that all of us made together, motivate us to hope to find again a space in your agendas when we confirm the new dates for this highly expected meeting.
We will keep you informed of the new plans that are coming for this meeting.
Thanks again for your comprehension.
Best regards
Efrain Mendez
